Tennis court fencing
Tennis court fencing is normally around 3 m to 3.6 m high so balls stay on the court. It is built from PVC-coated diamond mesh or welded mesh panels on steel posts, often in green or black so players can see the ball. Look for:
- Mesh that is strong enough not to sag where balls hit it
- Rails or tension wires at the top, middle and bottom
- Posts concreted deep enough for the height and wind load
- A lockable gate wide enough for maintenance equipment
The same fencing works for netball and padel courts. Keep the bottom of the mesh close to the court surface so balls cannot roll out under it.
Sports field fencing
Sports field fencing covers rugby, soccer and cricket fields, athletics tracks and netball courts. Low spectator barriers keep crowds off the field, while taller perimeter fences stop people walking across and keep animals off the grass. Ball-stop fences or netting behind goals and cricket nets protect parking areas and neighbours. Diamond mesh is popular here because it is affordable over long distances. Where a fence runs close to a road or houses, a taller ball-stop section in the danger zone costs less than raising the whole fence. Wide gates let mowers and line-marking machines in.
School fencing
School fencing often combines sport and security. Schools want sports grounds fenced so learners are safe during the day and equipment is protected at night. A see-through fence such as clear view or weldmesh lets staff see the field, and controlled gates help manage who comes in. Ask for a fence that has no sharp edges at learner height. Tops can be finished with a rail or folded mesh instead of barbed wire where learners play, and a lockable gate lets the community use the field after hours without opening the whole school.

How to compare sports fencing quotes
The cheapest price per metre is not always the best value in fencing. When your sports fencing quote arrives, check:
- Materials: the wire or steel thickness, the type of galvanising or coating, and the pole size and spacing. Thinner material looks the same on day one but fails sooner.
- Foundations: how deep the poles are set and whether they are concreted. Most fence failures start at the posts.
- What is included: gates, locks, corner stays, removal of an old fence, site clearing and rubble removal.
- Guarantee and timing: workmanship guarantees, the expected start date and how long installation will take.
Our service passes your request to a contractor who works in your area, so you can ask these questions before you commit. It costs nothing and you are under no obligation to accept the quote.
Request a sports fencing quote
To get an accurate quote quickly, include:
- The type of facility: tennis court, field, cricket nets or school grounds
- The perimeter length and the height you need
- The mesh type and colour you prefer
- The number of gates and whether vehicles need access
- Whether old fencing must be removed first
Photos or a rough sketch of the boundary help too. Mention them in the details and the contractor will ask for them.
Frequently asked questions
Can an old tennis court fence be repaired?
Often, yes. If the posts are sound, a contractor can replace sagging or rusted mesh and re-tension it. Badly rusted posts usually mean a full replacement is better value.
Do you supply netting for cricket nets?
Some contractors supply both the frame and netting. Mention it in your request and the contractor in your area will tell you what they can quote for.
