Galvanised Diamond Mesh Fencing for Farms, Yards and Boundaries

Galvanised diamond mesh fencing is plain silver mesh made from steel wire with a zinc coating that protects it from rust. It is the practical choice for farms, factories and long boundaries where strength and price matter more than colour. Tell us your boundary length and height, and a fencing contractor or supplier in your area will send you a free quote for the mesh, poles and installation.

How galvanising protects the wire

Galvanising covers steel wire with a layer of zinc. The zinc corrodes slowly in place of the steel, so the wire stays strong for many years. The thicker the zinc layer, the longer the fence lasts, which is why suppliers sell standard and heavy galvanised mesh. Points to know:

  • Inland, galvanised mesh lasts well with little maintenance
  • Near the sea or around fertiliser and chemical stores, ask for heavy galvanised wire
  • Cut ends and scratches can be touched up with zinc-rich paint
  • Matching galvanised wire fencing accessories (tie wire, straining wire, clips) stop rust spots from forming

Heavy duty diamond mesh fencing

Heavy duty diamond mesh fencing uses thicker wire, usually 3.0 mm to 4.0 mm, often with a smaller 50 mm opening. It is harder to cut, holds its shape better when leaned on and suits industrial yards, substations, mines and game camps. Lighter 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm wire is fine for garden and chicken run fences. Diamond mesh fencing 1.8m high is the most common height for homes and farms, while 2.4 m with razor wire on top is typical for security perimeters.

Diamond mesh fencing poles

The poles carry the load, so they matter as much as the mesh. Diamond mesh fencing poles are normally galvanised or painted steel tube or angle iron. Line poles go in every 2.5 to 3 m, and heavier straining posts with stays go at corners, ends, gates and changes in direction. All poles should be set in concrete. Using galvanised poles with galvanised mesh keeps the whole fence the same colour and avoids rust where painted poles get scratched during installation.

How to compare galvanised diamond mesh quotes

The cheapest price per metre is not always the best value in fencing. When your galvanised diamond mesh quote arrives, check:

  • Materials: the wire or steel thickness, the type of galvanising or coating, and the pole size and spacing. Thinner material looks the same on day one but fails sooner.
  • Foundations: how deep the poles are set and whether they are concreted. Most fence failures start at the posts.
  • What is included: gates, locks, corner stays, removal of an old fence, site clearing and rubble removal.
  • Guarantee and timing: workmanship guarantees, the expected start date and how long installation will take.

Our service passes your request to a contractor who works in your area, so you can ask these questions before you commit. It costs nothing and you are under no obligation to accept the quote.

Request a galvanised diamond mesh quote

To get an accurate quote quickly, include:

  • The total fence length in metres and the number of corners
  • The height and whether you need light or heavy duty wire
  • Whether the site is coastal or near chemicals (for heavy galvanising)
  • The number and width of gates
  • Supply only, or supply and installation

Photos or a rough sketch of the boundary help too. Mention them in the details and the contractor will ask for them.

Frequently asked questions

Is galvanised or PVC-coated diamond mesh better?

Galvanised mesh is cheaper and strong, and it lasts well inland. PVC-coated mesh costs more but looks neater and resists rust better in coastal or wet areas. Many farms and factories use galvanised; many homes and schools choose green or black.

Can I paint galvanised diamond mesh?

You can, but paint does not stick well to new zinc without a suitable primer, and painting mesh by hand is slow. If you want colour, PVC-coated mesh is usually the easier option.
