Palisade Fencing Supplied and Installed in South Africa

Palisade fencing is a strong steel fence made from vertical pales bolted or welded to horizontal rails. It is hard to climb or cut, lets you see out and is the standard security fence for homes, businesses and factories in South Africa. Send one free request and a fencing contractor near you will quote for palisade supplied and installed, including gates.

Steel vs galvanised palisade fencing

Steel palisade fencing is usually sold in one of three finishes:

  • Painted steel: primed and painted, lowest price, needs repainting every few years
  • Palisade fencing galvanised: hot-dip galvanised, lasts much longer, best near the coast
  • Galvanised and powder-coated: rust protection plus a colour such as black, the longest-lasting option

Pales come mainly as W-section or angle iron. W-section pales are stiffer and harder to cut, while angle iron is cheaper. Thicker steel and closer pale spacing add strength and cost.

Palisade fencing price per metre

The price of palisade fencing is quoted per metre because panels are made to suit the boundary. The main things that change the palisade fencing price per metre are:

  • Height, from 1.2 m up to 3.0 m
  • Pale profile, steel thickness and gap between pales
  • Finish: painted, galvanised or powder-coated
  • Number of rails, posts and concrete footings
  • Slopes, gates and any razor wire or electric fence on top

Hardware store prices for panels usually exclude posts, gates and installation, so compare full written quotes. A longer run usually costs less per metre than a short one, because setting up, transport and gates are spread over more metres. Ask each contractor to list the height, steel thickness and finish so quotes can be compared fairly.

Palisade fencing on top of a wall and spike types

Palisade fencing on top of a wall is a popular way to raise security without building higher. Short panels are bolted to the wall with base plates, so the wall must be solid enough to carry them. Check with your municipality, as boundary walls and fences above a certain height may need approval. Pale tops include triple-pointed (the most common), single-pointed, and rounded or flat tops for schools and homes with children. Splayed tops that bend outward make climbing harder. As a full fence without a wall, posts are concreted into the ground at each panel joint.

How to compare palisade fencing quotes

The cheapest price per metre is not always the best value in fencing. When your palisade fencing quote arrives, check:

  • Materials: the wire or steel thickness, the type of galvanising or coating, and the pole size and spacing. Thinner material looks the same on day one but fails sooner.
  • Foundations: how deep the poles are set and whether they are concreted. Most fence failures start at the posts.
  • What is included: gates, locks, corner stays, removal of an old fence, site clearing and rubble removal.
  • Guarantee and timing: workmanship guarantees, the expected start date and how long installation will take.

Our service passes your request to a contractor who works in your area, so you can ask these questions before you commit. It costs nothing and you are under no obligation to accept the quote.

Request a palisade fencing quote

To get an accurate quote quickly, include:

  • The total boundary length in metres and the height you want
  • Painted, galvanised or galvanised and powder-coated finish
  • Whether the palisade goes on top of an existing wall
  • The pale top style and whether you want razor wire or an electric fence on top
  • The number and width of pedestrian and driveway gates

Photos or a rough sketch of the boundary help too. Mention them in the details and the contractor will ask for them.

Frequently asked questions

Is palisade or clear view fencing more secure?

Both are strong. Clear view mesh has very small openings that are hard to grip or cut, while palisade is tougher against impact and usually cheaper per metre. The right choice depends on height, budget and the look you want.

How do I find palisade fencing near me?
